Here’s their response:

AIDS-3D’s CURRENT GUIDELINES:

- We have a generalized distrust of institutions and their conventions.
- We believe in the sharpest possible distinguishment of ones self.
- We believe that the digital revolution is still transforming humanity and that we must always be the vanguard of this revolution.
- We believe in a fluid and undefined sexuality based on the ability to virtually sublimate any desire online.
- We believe that drugs are cool but not as cool as we all wished they are.
- We believe in wearing thick wool socks in the summer as well as the winter.
- We believe in trying to eat a different style of ethnic food every day of the week. (this is a balanced diet)
- We believe in maintaining a fashionable silhouette at all times.
- We believe in a completely free worldwide market.
- We believe that intellectual property is problematic, but we also respect that profit remains the biggest incentive for new developments.
- We always vote for Democrats, but only because we’re pragmatists.
- We believe that usually its best to only wear one pattern at a time.
- We are members of a dynamic international community.
- We are proud to be Americans because we invented black music, hollywood, public relations, and the internet!
- We believe there is no such thing as selling out as long you are still spreading your ideas.
- We believe that proactive ego-force can effect change on a global scale.
- We want to believe in Oprah’s Secret.
- We believe in dancing.
- We don’t share girls anymore.
Smoke weed every day

You may have already seen AIDS-3D’s flaming bluetooth symbol. They were also in that “Younger Than Jesus” group show at the New Museum last Spring/Summer.

"It is impossible to get tired of computers these days. It’s a fine piece, but Jeanne Marie Laskas’ investigative work that appeared earlier in GQ is better. A bold statement for me considering how much I enjoy reading Gladwell’s work.

Laskas focuses on the human toll of those forgotten players who suffer in solitude, the ethic of a multi-billion dollar industry who buries its head in the sand, and the fight of an outlier to seek truth according to his personal morality and his religious convictions. Laskas’ article is a blue-collar testimony to great journalism. She puts the human being and the moral dilemma at the center of the story, which, I hope, moves powerful interests to act for the good of those former NFL players who are suffering and have little means to live the rest of their days in relative comfort.

(photo: “Headless” by Albert Cesario)

I’m gonna have to second this one … Gladwell’s reporting hits you in the head (no pun intended), but Laskas’ writing goes for the gut.

"Research has shown that if you eat super broccoli or any other cruciferous super vegetable everyday,..."

“Research has shown that if you eat super broccoli or any other cruciferous super vegetable everyday, you can control insects with your mind.”

- “Super Super Foods”

arielk:

Drop Everything and Run
One Year Anniversary – The End of Running

Well, it’s been one year to the day since I stopped running. While not really a benchmark in and of itself, I thought I’d take the opportunity to update you on the project. If you’ve been following along, you’ve no doubt noticed that I haven’t yet presented anything from the ‘running’ phase – the project site only includes material from the ‘pre’ and ‘post’. Suffice to say that the realities of ‘post-running’ life (money) have required quite a bit of my attention this past year, leaving less than desired for art-making. Instead of rushing things along, I’m taking time to ensure the year+ of material gets proper attention. Pardon our dust.

In the meantime, enjoy a taste of things to come. This photograph was taken one year ago today – a gorgeous morning at Roden Crater.

Bated breath. (And yes, it’s that Roden Crater)

A wall of Chris Ware.
From Kirill Kuletski’s Speleotherapy series:

The therapy which takes place at Solotvyno is based on a method known as Speleotherapy, an alternative therapy for asthma and other respiratory diseases. This therapy was discovered in Poland in the 1950s when it was noticed that salt mine workers rarely suffered from tuberculosis. Scientists found that the salt-permeated air of the working salt mine helped to dissolve phlegm in the bronchial tubes and also killed the micro-organisms which caused infections – and that this greatly helped patients who were undertaking treatment for asthma.

It consists of hanging out all day in the sun, doing nothing, avoiding any kind of work or useful activity, drinking cups of tea, listening to Hindi film music blaring on the radio, and gossiping with friends. Western laziness is quite different. It consists of cramming our lives with compulsive activity, so there is no time at all to confront the real issues. This form of laziness lies in our failure to choose worthwhile applications for our energy.””

-
Sogyal Rinpoche

This month’s rent party just happens to fall on All Hallows’ Eve, so we’re exploring the space and exposing its supernatural elements. We’ll also be presenting results from a smaller, all-night paranormal inquiry that took place last Saturday.

You can participate by swapping real-life ghost stories, practicing divination techniques, making ectoplasm, and snapping spirit photos with photographer Crystal Liepa.

And because hunting ghosts is hard work, there will also be music. Tunes from DJ Jonathan Ackerman and ritualistic dancing to commence at 11:30pm.

That’s next Saturday, October 31st, 9pm-2am at the WBSC. There will be a $5 cover at the door, costumes are not required.

The More Loving One by W.H. Auden
Looking up...

walkwhilereading:

The More Loving One by W.H. Auden

Looking up at the stars, I know quite well
That, for all they care, I can go to hell,
But on earth indifference is the least
We have to dread from man or beast.

How should we like it were stars to burn
With a passion for us we could not return?
If equal affection cannot be,
Let the more loving one be me.

Admirer as I think I am
Of stars that do not give a damn,
I cannot, now I see them, say
I missed one terribly all day.

Were all stars to disappear or die,
I should learn to look at an empty sky
And feel its total dark sublime,
Though this might take me a little time.

Auden appears, unexpectedly.
