"You enter the Atlantic Avenue Tunnel via a ladder through a manhole in the middle of Atlantic Avenue. Traffic is blocked off, but you should definitely wear comfortable shoes and those who are incapable of climbing up and down a 10 feet ladder should not plan on attending the event. We apologize for this, but there is absolutely no other way to enter or exit the tunnel. You must sign a liability waiver before entering the tunnel (forms will be available at the entrance). There are no chairs in the tunnel. We will put down tarps to sit on, and you are also welcome to bring small cushions (nothing too big, please). There are no bathrooms in the tunnel. You should use a restroom before you enter."

On the Waterfront.Exciting things are happening! Last weekend Ariel and I moved into our place in the Columbia Street Waterfront District. It’s a strange, wonderful little neighborhood with a disputed name — the woman we’re subletting it from calls it Cobble Hill, Michael insists it’s really just part of Red Hook, and we’ve been affectionally calling it “CoWaDis”.
Another big thing happened to me before the weekend; I accepted a part-time position as a front-end designer/developer at PopTech’s DUMBO office. The more I dig into what this organization does, the more exciting I am about it; while at first glance they may appear to be just another TED, much of PopTech’s emphasis is now on actually making things happen. I’ll be helping update the website to better tell this part of the story.
And finally, with a new place to live and a new workplace comes a new commute —  which is one of things I’m most excited about. It’s actually significantly easier and faster for me to get to work via bike than it is via public transportation. That’s because my commute is almost completely through the brand new Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway (which I mentioned earlier). This means I have just about zero excuse not to bike to work every day.

Hey kids, check out School of the Future’s new website! What’s that?

School of the Future is a project about what a school can be. We’ll open this July as an inter-generational free school for the community around Sgt. Dougherty Park, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Brought to you by the folks at the Teaching Artists Union and The Institute for Applied Aesthetics.
(It’d be a great follow-up to We Work Here if I could afford to be travelling all summer…)
