We scoped out these map paintings by Paula Scher during a field trip to Chelsea galleries this past Saturday morning. Pretty rad.

These are amazing. Going to check them out on Saturday.

Rad indeed. Check out Hillman Curtis’ nice mini-doc on Paula Scher for more on her background.

It’s here: the new Walker Art Center website. It’s newsy!

Niiice … I like the little focus menu that pops up on the left, although not sure if I would ever use it.

I love the weird typography for “Fig. 1”, etc.
ckck:

I was eating pizza the other day when my mind got to thinking about that little plastic tripod used to keep larger pizza boxes from caving in. It’s the kind of invention no one thinks about because of how simple it is, yet it’s a smart, cheap solution. After a bit of googling, I found out that it was invented and patented as a “package saver” in the early 80s by a woman named Carmela Vitale from Dix Hills, N.Y. I would’ve loved to have found more back story on how she came up with it, but the patent is all I could find.

The Bobulate Evening Edition
Starting today, this site (when viewed in a browser) will undertake a bit of an experiment. At 6PM (your time) each day, it will change from day to night. A visual shift. A pause. A marker of time — whether it’s time to walk away, take a break, keep on working, or play.

This week Veer released Phaeton, my first contribution to the world of fonts. I can now attend typographer soirées. If anyone is throwing one of these anytime soon, send me an invite. I’ll wear my “I like my punctuation well-hung” shirt.

Up close it just looks like a cool aesthetic touch but from a distance (and possibly even more clearly when moving 200 mph) it appears to resemble the packaging of a certain cigarette manufacturer. Can you guess which one?
The EU bans cigarette advertising, but Marlboro still renews their Frerari Formula One sponsorship. Above was their solution to being forbidden from putting their logo on a car they paid $1 billion to sponsor. Sneaky.

Yup.

It seems like the most recent trend in web design is to figure out exactly what you want to say, find an excellent photo of who you’re talking about and otherwise shut the fuck up.
I like this trend. I hope it continues.
