We scoped out these map paintings by Paula Scher during a field trip to Chelsea galleries this past Saturday morning. Pretty rad.

These are amazing. Going to check them out on Saturday.

Rad indeed. Check out Hillman Curtis’ nice mini-doc on Paula Scher for more on her background.

This week Veer released Phaeton, my first contribution to the world of fonts. I can now attend typographer soirées. If anyone is throwing one of these anytime soon, send me an invite. I’ll wear my “I like my punctuation well-hung” shirt.

"You think I’m pedestrian and tacky? Guess the fuck what, Picasso. We don’t all have seventy-three weights of stick-up-my-ass Helvetica sitting on our seventeen-inch MacBook Pros. Sorry the entire world can’t all be done in stark Eurotrash Swiss type. Sorry some people like to have fun."

tran:

With LAIKA, there is finally a font that can seamlessly use the whole spectrum of its cuts. A font that is able to move between its extremes in real time. An interactive font that is able to respond to its surroundings. A font that questions deadlocked dogmas and throws up completely new design questions, and thus has the potential to revolutionise the understanding of digital typography.

I gotta get me one of these…

The Periodic Table of Typefaces
“The typefaces are ranked via popularity, influence and notoriety and were compiled from lists such as “The 100 Best Fonts Of All Time”, “21 Most Used Fonts By Professional Designers” and “30 Fonts That ALL Designers Must Know and Should Own”. Unsurprisingly Helvetica and Futura were number one and two respectively.”

I tend to avoid contributing to the overabundance of typofetishism on the internet, but this I couldn’t resist. Helvetica = Helium … perfect.
