“I gotta play Tetris with my time.”
Yard Work is Hard Work (excerpt, 2008) (by jodie mack)
I think I understand my leaf/snow blower neighbors a little better now.

Don’t you wish you could watch more videos like this? I do.
I made this video essay as a final project for one of my classes this semester, TV & the Development of Youth. It was a fantastic class, even though it brought up more questions than it answered. We watched a lot of TV and we talked about a lot of TV, and from this we tried to figure out TV’s significance to young people. What really is the difference between TV and other mediums, such as reading? Why am I more comfortable with young kids reading about a racy sex scene than seeing it on a screen? Is our media consumption redefining what we consider “literacy”? Can we create a clearer definition of media or technology literacy ? Does creating an “educational” show mean inserting a moral? How can we ever know what TV is teaching youth, even if they watch shows where educational content is carefully planned?
I went to an educational conference this spring in New Orleans, and at a particular session I overheard a group of educators complaining about the worthlessness of reality tv shows. It’s a thought I’ve had before. Unfortunately, the urge is often to pull away and leave television out of curricula, despite its powerful appeal. And “television” doesn’t have clear definitions anymore as we lose the temporality of network schedules and access it online. Moreover, the tools to create media are quickly becoming widespread. If we don’t like what we see on the screen, we can amend or alter it. We can rebut it. We can try again. (Thanks to Claudia and Peter, who blogged about the video responses to the Alexandra Wallace youtube video).
Yup, I love this too.
I love this video, I love me some Emily M, and I love Ariel Pink.
My friend David, who loves film and education, bestowed upon me several hours of super 8 footage from his days at Cal Arts, and told me to “do something with it.” The resulting Ariel Pink fan video I’ve edited together seemed like the logical choice. Enjoy!
“Ida Walked Away.” Music by Au, animation by Takafumi Tsuhiya. Reminding me that being a music video producer would be really, really cool.

From the Laughing Squid:
David Martin created this haunting, time-lapse video of the effort to raise US Airways Flight 1549 from the icy depths of the Hudson River, one year ago.
The rescued airplane is now up for auction. Who wants to help pitch in for it?

Man, I’m totally in love with Impactist right now. Here’s a bit of why I think they’re great:

Check it out, the “Cut / Copy / Paste” videos are up! Get ‘em while they’re hot!
Next month’s theme is “Non-fiction”, and the screening is December 22nd. You know you’ve got a true story you’ve been dying to tell…
As usual, more videos and info on the website.
WBSC + MAW + You = ?
As you may have heard, somethin’s been a-happenin’ Wednesday nights at the WBSC. We’ve teamed up with Minneapolis Art on Wheels, who’ll be setting up their lab in the space every hump day and projecting onto the building across the way.
This video is from our first official Wednesday Night Social, when Miranda & I discovered a pitcher of moldy lemonade in the (unplugged) mini-fridge in the kitchen. We handed it off to the MAWs, and this is what happened.
What’s in store for tonight? I have no clue, really. Swing by and find out for yourself.
